Balancing Fruit into your diet

Here’s one of my latest creations:  Bananas, blueberries, almond butter, honey, raisins, coconut.

For years I’ve been following the trendy diet that lowers fruit intake and increases protein. As an athlete it made sense to me so I did my best with sometimes good results and sometimes not. A few months ago I was feeling really terrible and after seeing a few doctors and running a few tests, a cardiologist who works with runners and triathletes walked into the exam room, took one look at me and said, “You’re severely dehydrated.”

“Impossible”, I replied. “I drink tons of water and coconut water so there’s no way.” Right? Wrong. “Electrolytes”, he said. “When you work-out and have an accelerated heart rate for 20 minutes or more you need to replenish electrolytes.”

Oh. Dear. I had no idea how fragile the balance was and how crappy an imbalance could make you feel. So…I am now on a mission to rehydrate. I am drinking 16-ounces of water with Ultima Electrolyte Replenisher every day. I’ve re-introduced my favorite fruits into my life, increased my raw veggies and greens and am totally in love with my new addiction to smoothies and juicing. No added sugars. Balanced protein intake. And happier than ever!

Did I mention I’m following lots of the suggestions in Anthony William’s book: Life-Changing Foods?

Happy, healing and hydrating!
